A terrible bicycle accident on Saturday evening has resulted in the death of a 17 year old boy in Durham, North Carolina.

The wreck happened around 9:00 pm on Cole Mill Road near the intersection with Nancy Rhodes Drive.

Based on available information, it appears that a vehicle was traveling north on Cole Mill Road and struck the bicyclist.

At this time, it is unclear what caused the wreck or whether the bicyclist was operating the bicycle with the required lighting and reflectors.

A gentleman named Andrian Visser was tragically killed in a crash in Matthews, North Carolina on Monday night while riding his bicycle.

The wreck apparently happened around 8:00 pm near the exit ramp of Intestate 485 and East Independence Boulevard.

Mr. Visser was apparently 54 years old.

The wreck happened on Thursday, March 4 on Fuller Mill Road near Reddy Foxx Lane. Following the wreck, the driver who hit the young bicyclist fled the scene.

Reports now indicate that the fleeing driver, Michael Galloway, has now been arrested for his role in causing this crash.

On Friday night, a woman riding a bicycle was seriously injured when she was hit by a van on Hodge Road. The wreck happened in a crosswalk near the location where the Mingo Creek Greenway crosses Hodge Road.

According to available information, the 1996 Ford Econoline van failed to yield to the woman and hit her in the crosswalk.

The woman was taken to the hospital with critical injuries but was expected to survive.

The driver of the van has been charged with failure to yield.

A gentleman named Kenneth Wells was seriously injured on Sunday morning near Wanchese, North Carolina when he was hit while riding his bicycle. The accident happened on Harbor Road around 12:30 am when a woman hit Mr. Wells from behind.

The woman, a 45 year old from Manteo, fled the scene after the collision but was later caught and arrested. She has been charged with felony hit-and-run.

A bicyclist named Jane Beach was tragically killed on Saturday afternoon while riding her bike near Asheville, North Carolina.

The wreck happened around 5:00 pm on North Carolina Highway 191. According to available information, a woman driving a Buick struck Ms. Beach and then fled the accident scene.

The woman was later apprehended and has been charged with several crimes including driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license, and felony hit-and-run.

A bicyclist named Robert Fox was tragically killed on Monday evening in a hit-and-run crash near Hildebran, North Carolina. The wreck happened around 11:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 70A near the Happy Day Grocery.

According to available information, a Hickory woman hit Mr. Fox and fled the scene. The driver has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, and driving without a license.

Mr. Fox was 31 years old and from Hickory, North Carolina.

Police now indicate that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested in Granville County, North Carolina which is just north of Raleigh. The 55 year old man was charged with felony hit and run although it would seem likely that there would be a misdemeanor death by motor vehicle charge as well.

Sgt. April Gause, spokeswoman for the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department, said the collision occurred Wednesday around 9:15 p.m. along Danford Road. Gause said Deputy Andrew Lentz was driving a county vehicle when it hit a 14-year-old bicyclist.

Officials said the boy was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and later released without serious injury. The deputy was treated and released from Dosher Memorial Hospital.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office have both opened an investigation into the collision. No charges have been filed.
