The driver of the responsible vehicle has now been arrested a suspect and he has been charged with multiple crimes including second-degree murder, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving.

Mr. Valentine was 23 years old when he was hit and killed.

Sinclair Larson, an All American swimmer in 2019 at the University of Tennessee, was seriously injured on Sunday evening as she was walking her dog in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

According to available information, Ms. Larson was walking across the street in a marked crosswalk with flashing lights when she and her dog were struck by a vehicle. Mr. Larson was taken to UNC Hospital with serious injuries. Her dog Jasper was also injured.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Ms. Larson to help cover the costs of her medical bills.

A gentleman named Raymond Cheek was tragically killed on Friday when he was hit by an impaired driver in Greensboro, North Carolina on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at just after 10:00 pm near the intersection of East Market Street and Gillespie Street. Mr. Cheek was walking as a pedestrian when a Charlotte man driving 2011 Lexus SUV hit him.

The Lexus driver was charged with numerous serious crimes including driving while impaired, driving while license revoked and felony death by motor vehicle. There is no indication as to whether the Lexus was insured at the time of the wreck.

A man was killed this week in a terrible hit-and-run accident in Carolina Beach, North Carolina.

The incident occurred on Carolina Beach Avenue near the 500 block. According to available information, a 74-year old man was arrested in the incident and charged with numerous crimes including Felony Death by Motor Vehicle, Driving While Impaired, and Hit-and-Run Causing Serious Injury or Death.

The victim of this crash was initially alive at the scene but succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving measures by emergency responders.

Mr. Vernon, who is 21 years old, was taken to Moses Cone Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

We certainly hope that Mr. Vernon will recover from his injuries. As with many cases involving serious injuries to pedestrians, it remains to be learned whether the person driving the vehicle was possibly distracted at the time of the collision. Hopefully, the police investigation will provide more information about the cause of this collision.

The wreck happened on Thursday morning as Mr. and Mrs. Adams walked down a residential street. As they were walking, they were hit by a woman who had failed to defrost her windshield before driving and, therefore, apparently did not see the Ronald and Miriam Adams. The driver apparently crossed over the centerline and struck the two pedestrians.

This is a very sad case and this accident appears to have been preventable had the driver taken the time to ensure that she could see before driving. Charges are pending against the driver.

Available information indicates that Ms. Ridenour was wearing reflective clothing including a reflective shirt and a reflective hat. She was found by co-workers from the plant where she worked when she did not make it into work that morning.

Police have located the vehicle involved in the collision and the vehicle is associated with Aberdeen Coca-Cola Bottling Company. The driver of the vehicle is expected to be charged in the collision.

This is a very tragic accident and the family of Ms. Ridenour has our deepest sympathies.

Reports indicate that Mr. Scott was walking along NC 62 with a gas can when another driver turned around to offer him a ride. As this was happening, a third vehicle approached but did not slow down and, instead, veered off the road and hit Mr. Scott.

Unfortunately, Mr. Scott did not survive. He was 57 years old and from Trinity, North Carolina.

The crash happened just after 8:15 pm near the 6800 block of Buttermere Drive. According to reports, Mr. Ortiz was walking along the side of the roadway when a BMW ran off the side of the road and struck him. Mr. Ortiz was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center but did not survive. He was 33 years old.

The BMW flipped into the adjacent yard and the driver apparently fled on foot. Police are looking for the driver and anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 910-483-8477.

The wreck happened around 10:30 pm when a man driving north on Old Oxford Road made an illegal pass of an SUV and came into Mr. Foster’s lane as he was rollerblading. There are some indications the vehicle driver was also speeding at the time of the collision and the driver has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and speeding in conjunction with this incident.

Mr. Foster was 24 years old.

According to available information, the car came around a curve in the roadway and hit Ms. Verastegui. At this point, it is not clear if charges will be filed against the 16 year old driver. If we learn more about the cause of this serious wreck, we will update this report.

There is very little information available about this crash except that reports suggest the driver of the vehicle will not be charged. It is not clear how the wreck happened and if we learn more about this crash, we will update this post.

The woman who was killed was 40 years old and was a school teacher in Montpelier, Virginia where she had taught for the past 13 years. A child was also hurt in the wreck but fortunately was able to be released from the hospital after receiving care.

The driver of the pickup, who has not been identified, has been charged in the wreck.

Based on the extensive work of the Kill Devil Hills police department, it has been determined that the driver of the vehicle warrants charges including felony death by motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle told investigating police that he was blinded by the sun. The driver was also operating the motor vehicle with a suspended license.

The issue of being blinded by the sun will not protect the driver form liability in this case. Under North Carolina law, all driver’s must operate the vehicle appropriately under the circumstances. If a driver is blinded by the sun, the driver must slow down and operate the vehicle in such a manner as to allow the operator to see and yield when appropriate as apparently was the case here.

According to available information, Mr. Harris was crossing MLK Junior Boulevard when he was hit by an on-coming car. The driver of the car was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to slow to avoid a collision with a person.

Mr. Harris was transported to Wakemed but he did not survive. He was 60 years old.

The crash happened around 7:00 am on Trollingwood Road. According to available information, Mr. Yancey was walking on the shoulder of the road when he was hit in the back by the mirror of a car headed east on Trollingwood Road. Mr. Yancey was transported to Alamance Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The State Highway Patrol is still investigating this accident and there is some indication that the mirror belongs to a white 2004-2008 Toyota Solara.

According to available information, the fire started sometime before 4:00 am and was controlled by 4:15 am by local firefighters. However, five children, all under the age of 8, died due to the fire.

Reports indicate that a parent of the children had complained to the landlord about fires in the kitchen before this incident. There are also reports that firefighters were at the complex on Sunday installing smoke alarms and changing batteries in existing smoke alarms.

Based on the available information, it would apparent that the landlord bears significant responsibility for allowing this tragedy to happen. While nothing can bring back the lives of the little children killed in this incident, it seems clear that this landlord needs to significantly change how they manage this rental apartment complex.
