Ryan Everette was riding his moped on Sunday evening just outside of Havelock when he was struck head-on by a car coming in the opposite direction.

According to reports, Mr. Everette was riding on Greenfield Heights Boulevard when a car coming in the other direction tried to pass another vehicle and came into Mr. Everette’s lane.  The other driver, Michael Sides, has been charged in the accident.

This is yet another unfortunate accident involving a moped, scooter or motorcycle on North Carolina roadways.  Unfortunately, drivers seem to continually ignore these types of vehicles which often results in serious injuries for the victims.

A motorcyclist named Danny Burdette was seriously injured on Tuesday in a motorcycle accident near Wanchese, NC.

The accident apparently happened on NC 345.  Details about the cause of the accident were not available from reports.

Moped driver Glenn Edward Shepard was killed on Thursday while riding his moped in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.

The tragic accident happened at the intersection of Beach Drive and Ocean Isle Beach Drive sometime during the morning.  According to reports, the driver of the other vehicle claims to have been blinded by the sun.  This driver struck Mr. Shepard from behind and was charge with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

A serious Fayetteville, NC motorcycle accident has resulted in the death of the motorcyclist.

The accident, which involved a hit-and-run driver, happened early Saturday at the intersection of Morganton and Skibo roads.  Apparently, Mr. David Keller was lawfully proceeding through the intersection on his motorcycle when he was struck by a black Cadillac Escalade.  The Escalade then fled the scene.  Mr. Keller did not survive the accident.  Anyone with information on this accident is asked to contact Fayetteville police.

A serious hit-and-run accident on Western Boulevard in Raleigh has resulted in serious injuries to scooter driver Brian John Moore.

The accident happened on Friday night around 10:30 pm and involved a newer model four door sedan.

A motorcyclist from Davidson County was killed on Sunday in a crash in Rowan County.

The motorcycle accident apparently happened near Bringle Ferry and Providence Church roads when a woman tried to turn left and crossed the path of motorcyclist Jeffrey Yarborough.  According to reports, Mr. Yarborough was traveling the speed limit of 55 mph just before the accident happened but may have slowed slightly before the impact.  The car driver was cited for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

A Hickory, North Carolina moped accident has resulted in serious injuries to the moped rider.

The accident happened on Second Avenue Southeast.  It is unclear what caused the moped rider to crash or whether another vehicle was involved.

A Wilmington, NC motorcyclist was killed Sunday evening after a crash with another motorist on Carolina Beach Road.

The accident apparently happened when motorcyclist Paul Crutchfield drove his motorcycle at a high rate of speed and struck a pick-up truck.  The driver of the pick-up has been charged with DWI and driving with a rveoked license.

According to reports, the police department’s accident reconstruction unit are working to determine what caused the wreck.

An accident in Greensboro involving a scooter and an automobile has apparently resulted in injuries to the scooter rider.

The accident happened on Saturday afternoon on 16th Street between Yanceyville Street and Fairview Street.  It is not clear what caused the accident.

What is the North Carolina motorcycle helmet law?

North Carolina General Statute 20-140.4 is the North Carolina motorcycle helmet law.  This law requires that every motorcycle rider, regardless of age, wear a safety helmet.  The law also requires that the helmet comply with federal standards.  The federal standards for motorcycle helmets can be found at Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218.

FMVSS 218 requires that every motorcycle helmet have a certain level of impact attenuation resistance.  The federal motorcycle law also rrequires that the helmet have a certain level of penetration resistance.  Also, the helmet must contain labelling indicating compliance with the federal motorcycle helmet standards.
