I recently came across an interesting article discussing the risks of distracted driving.
The article, in the Jacksonville Daily News, notes that a recent study has found that driving while using the cell phone delays a driver’s reaction time as much as a blood alcohol content of 0.08. Also, a driver who texts while driving takes their eyes off the road for an average of five seconds.
Indeed, there can be little doubt that distracted driving accounts for many of the wrecks on North Carolina roadways. Indeed, a national study in 2009 found that 5,474 people died and more than 448,000 were injured due to distracted driving.
If you are in a wreck, it may be important for your attorney to obtain the cell phone records of the other driver. If the other driver can be proven to have been texting or talking on the cell phone, an injured persons case can be much stronger.
