A gentleman named Gregory Hinnant was tragically killed on Friday in Beaufort County NC when a dump truck crossed the center line and hit Mr. Hinnant’s SUV.
The accident happened on U.S. 264 just east of Washington, North Carolina near the intersection of Waters Road. There were also passengers in Mr. Hinnant’s SUV who received injuries but they were not life-threatening. The driver of the dump truck has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Mr. Hinnnat was from Kenly, North Carolina.

It is not clear what caused the dump truck to cross the center line. Hopefully, NC State Highway Patrol officers will secure the driver’s log to determine if he had been on the road too long and that he was fatigued. Other important considerations would include whether the driver was operating a cell phone or possibly texting when the accident occurred. Hopefully, these questions will be answered as well.
