Driver Charged – Florida Resident Stephen Schwars Killed in I-95 Wreck near Dunn, North Carolina

WRAL TV in Raleigh reports that a Bradenton, Florida resident named Stephen Schwartz was killed when his car struck a piece of a container that was stripped from a tractor-trailer who hit an overpass on I-95.  The wreck happened near mile marker 72 near Dunn, North Carolina.  The driver of the tractor-trailer was to be charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. A recent article indicates that the driver of the tractor-trailer, James Proveaux, ignored a detour sign for over-height trucks.  For more click here.

Our sympathies are with the Schwars family.  It appears that Mr. Schwars was doing nothing more than driving down the road when he struck the fallen container.  It is hard to imagine the tractor-trailer company not properly loading the trailer and having an over-height load but that is what appears to be the situation based on the reports.
