On Tuesday evening an intoxicated driver caused a wreck in Denver, NC that sent four people to the hospital with injuries.
The driver, Samuel New, crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a car carrying a woman, her daughter and her two granddaughters. Mr. New then attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies. Police found an open beer can in his car and he apparently blew a 0.24 on a breath test. This reading is three times the legal limit. Mr. New has been charged with felony hit-and-run, DWI, open container violations, driving left of center and a seatbelt violation.
The victims of this accident were transported to Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville, NC. Reports indicate that Mr. New had been drinking at a bar called Safari Miles in Denver before the accident.
Hopefully Mr. New will have sufficient insurance to cover the claims of the victims in this case. This case could also implicate North Carolina’s dram shop laws if the bar served alcohol to Mr. New while he was intoxicated. Given the nature of this accident, the victims should certainly contacting an attorney to assist with this type of claim.
