A woman named Naisha Boneque was tragically killed on Interstate 540 in Raleigh, North Carolina early Sunday morning. The accident happened when another driver was apparently traveling the wrong way on 540 and hit the car driven by Ms. Boneque. Both Ms. Boneque and the other driver were determined to be dead at the scene.
It is not clear why the other driver was traveling in the wrong direction on I-540. In cases such as this, there medical examiner will typically perform a toxicology test to determine whether any impairing substances were present in the blood stream of the driver. Given the time of the accident, it would not be surprising if the other driver was impaired.
