North Carolina I-26 Crash Results in Four Fatalities
As reported by Blueridgenow.com, a terrible wreck in western North Carolina on I-26 has claimed four lives and sent several more people to the hospital. Victims of the wreck include Charles Novak, Theresa Saver, and a married couple from Lexington, North Carolina named Alvin and Gail Kimbell. The wreck was apparently triggered by a tractor trailer that rear-ended a vehicle shortly before 11 p.m on Sunday night. Two additional passengers – Amber Reid and Laci Fredricks were injured and airlifted to Mission Hospital in Asheville. The driver of the tractor-trailer has been charged with multiple counts including involuntary manslaughter. For more click here.
Asheboro Man Charged in Wreck That Killed Pedestrian
As reported by Wxii.com, an Asheboro man has been charged in a wreck that killed an 18 year old woman on Saturday evening in Asheboro. The driver, Jesus Morales, has been charged with multiple counts including DWI and driving a stolen vehicle. The victim is 18 year old Brittany Blakely. Blakely’s fiance, Christopher Clanton, was seriously injured and taken to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. For more, click here.

Durham Riverside Football Player Seriously Injured After Falling From Pick-up Truck

Roxboro Wreck Claims Life of Teen
As reported by many media outlets, a terrible Roxboro wreck has claimed the life of teenager Victoria Clayton. Apparently, Ms. Clayton was a passenger in a car than ran off the road and struck a ditch culvert early Saturday morning. For more, click here.
Health Insurer Settles Class Action Regarding Reimbursement for Out-of-Network Charges
In a very interesting case, New Jersey health insurer Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield has agreed to pay $22 million to settle a class action for failing to pay out-of-network claims for ambulatory care. For more click here.

Hepatitis B Outbreak at GlenCare of Mount Olive
As reported by Eyewitness News 9, four residents of GlenCare of Mount Olive, North Carolina have died and it appears that hepatitis B is to blame. At least one other resident has tested positive. California Class Action Seeks Back-Pay From Medicare For Rural Doctors
In a very interesting case, several California counties are suing Medicare claiming that the Medicare payment formula results in underpayments in rural communities that have undergine urbanization. According to the article, doctors in North Carolina may be among the most affected by the old formula. The case, which is brought as a class action, contends that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has failed for more than a decade to adjust appropriately for certain geographical differences in the cost of providing care.
